Senior Marketing Executive (Maternity Cover 12-month contract)

Welcome to Yorkshire is looking for a talented, driven and creative Senior Marketing Executive to help continue promoting Yorkshire as a world class destination.

You will have a key role in the planning, implementation and evaluation of creative marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects and be able to work effectively under pressure.

You will be expected to work as part of the Marketing Team, as well as across different departments in order to contribute to and deliver the priorities of Welcome to Yorkshire using your knowledge, skills, talent and potential to the best of your ability. 

Every day is different, from working on large national marketing campaigns, to writing copy for one of the many pieces of print Welcome to Yorkshire produce, involvement in research and working as part of the wider team at a variety of different events across the year.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Senior Marketing Executive role offers a lot of creative scope while working as part of a strong, supportive team.

  • Job Title: Senior Marketing Executive (maternity cover 12-month contract)                                              
  • Overall purpose of Job: To contribute to the successful delivery of the Marketing Plan by implementing effective marketing campaigns targeting the leisure, business and travel trade markets, both domestic and overseas.
  • Responsible to: Marketing Manager
  • Salary: £24K – £26k dependent on experience
  • Hours: 37, full time
  • Location:  Welcome to Yorkshire, Leeds  

Senior Marketing Executive main tasks: 

  1. Contribute to the development and implementation of the Marketing Strategy, Business Plan and campaigns to maximise Welcome to Yorkshire’s contribution to tourism earnings for the region.
  2. Implement integrated marketing plans, project manage campaigns and budgets as required to achieve the specific objectives of each project. This will include actively generating advertising revenue for each campaign.
  3. Copywriting compelling articles for brochures and campaigns, including taking the marketing lead on This is Y, an annual glossy magazine, directly liaising with the editor and designer and includes full responsibility of budgeting and the advertising sales income.
  4. Liaise efficiently with and manage relationships with suppliers and members.
  5. Ensure that external services and supplies are procured economically, seeking the best prices available.
  6. Liaise with the Marketing Manager to develop income generation opportunities.
  7. Provide marketing advice to the industry and to sub regional partnerships to raise the quality of marketing performance through attendance at partnership meetings, and the delivery of workshops and seminars.
  8. Represent the Marketing Department at various groupings/meetings to ensure that the views of Welcome to Yorkshire are taken into consideration for the greater promotion of the region and to ensure that a professional image and consistent corporate message is maintained and delivered.
  9. Effectively measure and evaluate all campaign activity to demonstrate ROI.
  10. Manage the economic and occupancy research projects with external research team.
  11. Maintain effective communications and working relationships between staff and other colleagues within the organisation.
  12. Attend trade shows, events and festivals on behalf of Welcome to Yorkshire (this will involve working outside of office hours and some weekends).
  13. Monitor latest marketing developments and technologies which could present opportunities to gain competitive advantage for Welcome to Yorkshire’s marketing activity.
  14. Share good practice, case studies and ideas with the team to help foster a dynamic, innovative and collaborative team effort.
  15. Act as deputy for the Marketing Manager as and when is required.
  16. Performs such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.


Senior Marketing Executive Employee Specification 




Degree or equivalent qualification/experience



Qualification/CIM in a marketing related field




Experience of devising and delivering successful marketing plans



Management of the design, print and distribution process



Management of budgeted projects



Experience of work with a tourism/arts/festivals/leisure field




Experience of copy writing or working in a publishing environment





Ability to handle multiple projects



Ability to work collaboratively across a team



Excellent written and verbal communication skills



Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)



Ability to analyse data
