Plan B call for support
Welcome to Yorkshire has called on the Government to provide additional support for the region’s tourism and hospitality sectors as England moves into a new phase of Covid-19 restrictions.
Peter Box, Chair of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:
“Whilst there is understandable concern for public safety with the rise in Covid cases and uncertainty around the Omicron variant, a significant number of Christmas events have been cancelled across Yorkshire, impacting significantly on tourism and hospitality.
“Bed and breakfasts, hotels and entertainment venues are likely to be adversely affected throughout the holiday period with people choosing to limit their movements.
“The work from home recommendation will also negatively impact on businesses and shops which serve the needs of local workers.
“Welcome to Yorkshire wants the tourism and hospitality sectors, which contributed £9 billion and 225,000 jobs to the economy before the pandemic, to thrive and will do all we can to help them do so.”
