Museums and galleries urged to bid for culture funding

Welcome to Yorkshire is encouraging museums and galleries across the region to bid for funding from the £4 million allocation to the Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund to improve access to arts and culture.

Museums and organisations with recognised collections can apply for £300,000 towards eligible capital projects. Bids should not exceed 75% of total eligible costs or be for works already in receipt of grant funding.

The cash boost could be used to support displays, protect collections, and make museums and galleries more accessible for visitors – helping more people to participate in and enjoy culture in our region.

Over the last 20 years the Museum and Galleries Improvement Fund has supported 415 projects with £48 million shared across 350 museums in the UK.

Museums and galleries benefitting from the Fund’s investments have improved access for communities to local history and helped to extend opening hours for visitors, so more people can visit collections and enjoy heritage.

Further details on how to apply and eligibility can be found here.
