John Gallery said: “It’s a great pleasure and honour to be joining the Welcome to Yorkshire board. The county has played a major part in my career and I’m incredibly passionate about Yorkshire and its tourism sector. I’m very much looking forward to sharing my expertise and to promoting the region, not only as a place to visit, but to live, work and study. It’s been a tough time for many brilliant businesses and particularly tourism, now’s the time to surge forward and to support and shout about a sector with much to offer on the world stage.”

Pre-pandemic tourism in Yorkshire was worth a staggering £9bn to the county’s economy and employed almost 225,000 people.

Welcome to Yorkshire Chair Peter Box said: “John’s excellent experience, vast contacts within the tourism sector and enthusiasm for all things Yorkshire means he’ll be a great asset and a brilliant addition to the team. He brings a huge skill set and vision, plus a real passion for the role. We’re delighted to welcome John on board to continue Welcome to Yorkshire’s creative strategy and to be part of its many inspiring initiatives going forward.”
